International Institute of Forensic Expertise

Research.
Evidence.
Answers.

The IIFE conducts independent forensic research, develops investigative tools, and publishes findings that hold up where it matters most: in front of people who are paid to find the holes. Based in Starnberg. Working globally.

Independent by design.
Rigorous by necessity.

The IIFE is the research and operational arm of intelligent piXel GmbH, Starnberg. It was built around a single conviction: that forensic science produces its best work when it answers to evidence rather than to institutional convenience. That means no court mandates, no agency retainers, no pressure to reach a conclusion before the work is done.

What started as applied forensic anthropology has grown into something harder to label. The institute now researches, develops, and publishes across eight disciplines, from osteological identification and radiocarbon dating to AI-driven investigative software and the societal consequences of technological disruption. The common thread is not the subject matter. It is the standard of proof applied to every question.

ENFSI-compliant methodology. Peer-reviewed publication. 25 years of casework on four continents. Everything documented, nothing assumed.

Eight fields.
One standard.

Forensic Anthropology
Age, sex, stature, and geographic origin from skeletal material. Perimortem and antemortem trauma, taphonomic assessment, osteological identification for courts and agencies that need findings they can defend.
Criminalistics
Evidence analysis and scene documentation that begins where standard police work ends. Authentication, tampering detection, chain-of-custody reconstruction, trace evidence evaluation. Built for international caseloads where local labs have already reached their ceiling.
Neuroscience
Neuroscience sits inside anthropology for a reason: the brain is the organ that produces behavior, and behavior is what forensic work ultimately reads. Research covers cognitive pattern recognition, neurological markers in evidence, and behavioral analysis in criminal contexts.
AI for Investigators
Purpose-built software for law enforcement and forensic analysts. Not adapted consumer AI with a new label. Systems designed from the ground up to produce output that is documented, reproducible, and holds up under cross-examination. Currently in active development and field testing.
Facial Reconstruction
2D drawing, 3D modeling, and photographic approximation from skeletal remains. Used in unidentified persons casework across four continents. The goal is a face somebody recognizes, produced by a method a court can examine.
Digital Forensics
Device analysis, data recovery, media authentication, and digital evidence documentation. Audio, video, image, and metadata forensics for courts, agencies, and private clients who need findings that survive technical scrutiny from the opposing side.
Radiocarbon Dating
C14 and stable isotope analysis for human remains, archaeological material, and forensic finds. Age estimation beyond the biological window, provenance research, timeline reconstruction. One of the few forensic applications where physics settles the argument.
Society & Technology
Forensic work does not happen in a vacuum. Research and publication on the societal consequences of AI, automation, digital infrastructure, and technological disruption, analyzed with the same methodological standard applied to casework. Peer-reviewed. Referenced. Citable.
